Explore an ever-growing and immensely popular pursuit. Bee populations across the world are collapsing catastrophically and we may lose one in three of every bite we eat. Keeping bees on a domestic level can be a vital way of supporting the biodiversity that bees foster.
The Beekeeping Experience days offer an introduction to the principles of beekeeping over the course of a weekend. The course focuses on beekeeping the natural way and will cover: the colony and how it works; the hive and beekeeping ‘year’; swarming; and how to negotiate problems with your bees. Participants will also have ample opportunity for hands-on involvement with bees.
The course is run by Troed Y Rhiw on their organic farm and taught by Sam Cooper, who owns and runs Afon Mêl Honey Farm and Meadery. He has been beekeeping for 37 years and has a wealth of knowledge to share from a lifetime of beekeeping. He now tends hundreds of the Honey Farm's hives that are spread throughout Ceredigion county. Troed y Rhiw farm hosts hives of the Honey Farm and have been running collaborative courses with Sam for many years.
