I love mead, it's a beautiful drink and woefully under-appreciated in the British Isles. But change is the only constant, and as demand for interesting, sustainable and responsibly produced food and drink continues to grow a new audience of curious drinkers might be drawn to the mythos and magic of mead. On the one hand I'm keen to spread the good word and get everyone on board so we can all revel in its rich history, exchange home-brew tips, and raise a glass to those adorable, buzzy bees. On the other I like that mead is a little underground subculture and that meeting a fellow mead-quaffer is a rare event and cause for small celebration. Perhaps mead is soon to have it's time in the Sun; but in the meantime we'll dance and drink by the light of the Moon.
