I'm Kate, a homegrown and foraged food enthusiast, and a lover of nature, with a particular fondness for our pollinator friends. Aside from my sweet-tooth and love of floral flavours, my interest in mead stems from an appreciation for the thoughtfully produced product. Mead actively promotes housing honey bees and Afon Mêl's ethos is so far removed from other food and drink production that often heavily relies on pesticides and insecticides. The way I see it, those who drink mead are doing their bit for honey bee conservation, and I'd really love to see more people give it a go. I'm no chef, but I do love cooking with natural, foraged, and homegrown ingredients, and what better to pair with such meals, than something so consciously-made? For me, mead is a warming, spirit-raising drink, and I can almost imagine our ancient ancestors forming alliances, and prospering together as they socialised over a cup of mead; much as I love to share food-from-scratch with family and friends.
